Dental Implants London

Missing a tooth or multiple teeth? You’re not alone. In Ontario, more than 30% of adults aged 65 and older are missing one or more natural teeth[1]. Dental implants offer a long-lasting, natural-looking solution that can restore your confidence—and your ability to eat and speak comfortably. At Lunar Smile Dentistry in London, Ontario, we provide dental implant treatment to help patients rebuild their smiles with results that feel and function like real teeth.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a small, screw-shaped post made of titanium. It’s placed in your jawbone where your missing tooth once was, acting as a replacement root. Once healed, a custom-made artificial tooth (crown) is securely attached to the implant. The result is a strong, stable, and natural-looking replacement tooth.

If you’re missing more than one tooth, multiple implants can be used to support a bridge or full-arch denture.

Why Choose Dental Implants?

  • Look and feel like natural teeth
  • Stay securely in place—no slipping or clicking
  • Help preserve your jawbone and facial structure[2]
  • Allow you to eat your favourite foods comfortably
  • Can last for decades with proper care—dental implants have a success rate over 95% after 10 years[3]

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

You may be a good candidate if:

  • You are in good general health
  • You have healthy gums
  • You have enough bone in your jaw to support the implant
  • You’re a non-smoker or willing to stop during healing—smoking may double the risk of implant failure[4]

If you’ve lost bone in your jaw, a bone graft might still make implants possible. We'll evaluate your options during your consultation.

What to Expect: The Implant Process

  1. Consultation & X-rays: We start with an in-depth exam, including digital X-rays, to determine if implants are right for you.
  2. Implant Placement: The implant post is surgically placed into your jawbone under local anesthesia. It will gradually bond with your bone over the next 3–6 months.
  3. Abutment & Crown Placement: Once the implant is fully healed, we attach a small connector (called an abutment) and then place your custom-made crown or bridge.

Caring for Your Dental Implants

Dental implants don’t get cavities, but they require the same daily care as natural teeth. Poor hygiene can lead to gum disease or peri-implantitis, which affects up to 20% of implant patients who don’t maintain proper care[5].
