Restorative dentistry in London, Ontario
Restorative dentistry repairs teeth that are decayed, cracked, worn or missing, so you can chew comfortably and keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. At Lunar Smile Dentistry, Dr. Adel Elbaz always starts with the smallest repair that will last, and explains each option, its cost and its trade-offs before we begin.
Repairing a damaged tooth
The right repair depends on how much of the tooth is affected:
- Small to medium cavity: a tooth-coloured filling replaces the decayed part, usually in one short visit.
- Large cavity, cracked tooth or broken filling: a crown covers and holds the tooth together. We make many crowns the same day with CEREC.
- Infected or dying nerve: a root canal removes the infection and saves the tooth, which then usually needs a crown.
- Chipped or worn edge: bonding rebuilds it with tooth-coloured resin.
- A tooth that can’t be saved: a gentle extraction, with a plan for replacing it.
Catching problems early keeps repairs small. A cavity found at a check-up is often a simple filling; left alone, the same tooth may need a root canal and crown.
Replacing missing teeth
| Option | What it is | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Dental implant | A titanium post in the jaw with a crown on top | Doesn’t touch neighbouring teeth; takes several months to heal |
| Dental bridge | A false tooth held by crowns on the teeth beside the gap | Fixed in place; done in about 2–3 weeks |
| Dentures | Removable full or partial replacement teeth | The most affordable option; can be held by implants for more stability |
Replacing a missing tooth sooner rather than later keeps the teeth around it from drifting and your bite from changing.
How we plan your care
- Exam and x-rays. We find every problem, not just the one that hurts, and show you what we see on intraoral camera images and digital x-rays.
- A plan in order of urgency. Pain and infection first, then teeth at risk, then everything else, so you can spread treatment out if you need to.
- Clear costs. Our fees follow the Ontario Dental Association fee guide. We check your insurance or Canadian Dental Care Plan coverage, bill directly where we can, and give you the cost before each step. See CDCP at our office.
Comfortable treatment
Restorative work is done with good freezing, including gentler computer-controlled freezing. If you’re anxious, ask about nitrous oxide and other sedation options.
