Oral Surgery in London, Ontario
Many oral surgery procedures can be done right here at Lunar Smile Dentistry, in a familiar office, with sedation available if you need it. Dr. Adel Elbaz takes the time to explain your options, what recovery looks like and what it costs before any treatment begins.
For the most complex cases, such as corrective jaw surgery or major facial injuries, we refer you to a specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon and coordinate your care with them.
Procedures we provide
Tooth extractions
Teeth that are badly broken, infected beyond repair, or crowding other teeth may need to be removed. Most extractions are quick and done with local freezing. Learn about tooth extractions.
Wisdom teeth and impacted teeth
Wisdom teeth often don’t have room to come in properly. When they are trapped under the gum or bone (impacted), they can cause pain, infection, cysts or damage to nearby teeth. We assess them with a panoramic x-ray and remove them when needed. Learn about wisdom teeth removal.
Bone grafting
After a tooth is lost, the jawbone around it slowly shrinks. A bone graft rebuilds that bone so there is enough support for a dental implant, and it can be placed at the time of an extraction to preserve the socket.
Sinus lift (maxillary sinus elevation)
The upper back teeth sit just below the sinuses. If there isn’t enough bone height there for an implant, a sinus lift gently raises the sinus floor and adds bone graft material beneath it.
Gum grafting
When gums recede, the tooth roots become exposed and sensitive. A gum (gingival) graft covers the exposed roots, reduces sensitivity and protects the teeth from further recession. See also periodontal therapy.
Crown lengthening
If a tooth is broken near the gum line, or a “gummy” smile shows too much gum, crown lengthening reshapes the gum and bone so a crown can be placed or the smile looks more balanced.
Dental implant surgery
We place dental implants to replace single teeth, several teeth, or to support a denture, and remove failing implants when needed. Ask about our current savings on implant treatment. Learn about dental implants.
Comfort during surgery
Every procedure is done with local anesthetic so you don’t feel pain. For more comfort, we offer:
- Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you relax
- Oral sedation and general anesthesia for longer procedures or anxious patients
- The Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA) system for gentler freezing
What to expect
- Consultation. We examine the area, take x-rays, explain your options, and give you a written estimate. You also receive a consent form that explains the procedure and its risks.
- Procedure day. We go over the plan again, make sure you’re comfortable, and complete the procedure. If you have sedation, you’ll need someone to drive you home.
- Recovery. You go home with written aftercare instructions and a number to call if you have any concerns. Most people return to normal activities within a few days.
Cost and coverage
Our fees follow the Ontario Dental Association fee guide. Most dental insurance plans and the Canadian Dental Care Plan cover extractions and many other surgical procedures. We bill your plan directly and confirm what’s covered before treatment.
Common questions
Is oral surgery done in your office?
Most procedures, including many wisdom teeth, grafts and implant surgery, are done in our office with local freezing and sedation options. Very complex cases may be referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
How long is recovery?
It depends on the procedure. Most people feel back to normal within a few days to a week. We give you written aftercare instructions and check in on your healing.
Can I be asleep for surgery?
Yes. General anesthesia is available for suitable patients, and we also offer laughing gas and oral sedation.
Will I need stitches?
Sometimes. Most stitches we use dissolve on their own within one to two weeks.
