We accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan
Lunar Smile Dentistry is a CDCP provider in London, Ontario. If you are a CDCP member, you can book with us like any other patient. We bill the plan directly, so you don’t pay the covered amount up front.
We are accepting new CDCP patients of all ages, with appointments 6 days a week.
What is the CDCP?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal program that helps cover dental care for Canadian residents who don’t have access to dental insurance. Sun Life administers the plan for the Government of Canada, and your member card comes from Sun Life after your application is approved.
Who qualifies
The federal government sets and updates the eligibility rules. In general, you may qualify if you:
- don’t have access to dental insurance through work, a pension or a family member’s plan
- have an adjusted family net income under $90,000
- are a Canadian resident for tax purposes and have filed your tax return for the previous year
Check the current rules and apply on the Government of Canada’s CDCP page. Applying is free.
What CDCP covers
CDCP covers a wide range of everyday dental care, including:
- Preventive care: cleanings (scaling), polishing, fluoride and sealants
- Diagnostic services: exams and x-rays
- Restorative care: fillings
- Root canal treatment
- Gum (periodontal) care
- Dentures
- Extractions and other oral surgery
Some services need approval from the plan before treatment. We check this for you and explain what is covered before we begin.
Will I pay anything?
That depends on your family income and the treatment:
- Co-payment: depending on your adjusted family net income, CDCP may ask you to pay a percentage of the plan’s fee. Your co-payment level is shown in your Sun Life welcome package.
- Fees above the plan’s rate: CDCP pays its own set fees. If our fee for a service is higher than what CDCP pays, there may be a difference.
We always go over any cost with you before treatment, so there are no surprises.

Common questions
Can I use CDCP for emergency dental care?
Yes. Emergency exams and treatment such as extractions or root canals are covered services. Call us at 226-884-2573 and we will do our best to see you the same day. See emergency dental care.
My CDCP card hasn’t arrived yet. Can I still book?
Yes, you can book your appointment. Your coverage starts on the date shown in your Sun Life welcome package, so bring your member ID once you have it, and we will confirm your coverage before treatment.
Does CDCP cover Invisalign or teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening and veneers are cosmetic, so CDCP doesn’t cover them. (Our new-patient whitening is complimentary.) Orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign, is covered only in limited cases that the plan approves in advance.
Do you accept CDCP for children and seniors?
Yes. We see CDCP members of every age.
